The CEU baseball team has a new baseball coach this year. Scott Madsen, 24, has taken over this position from his older brother, Eric Madsen.
Scott was the pitching coach for the Eagles the last four seasons and said that he is excited and anxious to get the season started as the new head coach. Scott also pitched for the CEU baseball team in the 97-98 season and then again in the 98-99 season.

Coach Madsen said that the team looked very strong this year as he had eight sophomores coming back from last season and 28 freshmen coming into the program.

“The conference looks very tough this year as in years past,” Scott said, “it is known as one of the toughest conferences in the nation as the winner of the conference is usually in contention for the national title.”

Madsen said, “The team should do well this season and the seasons to come because the players from last year keep the new players in line and working hard.”

He said, “The team should get better each year” as he has good players and lots of good coaching help.

When asked how he thought he would do compared to his brother he said, “I only hope that I can do as good as he did because Eric made the program what it now is and I hope that I can keep it that way.”

The other coaches on the team are John Ellswood, Madsen’s former teammate; and Josh Williams and Shawn Robinson, who will be outfield coaches. Joldy Watts, a pitcher for the Texas Rangers, will be coming back to help Ellswood with pitching.

With Eric leaving after two years as an assistant coach and seven years as head coach of the Eagles to go to UVSC, everyone hopes that Scott can do as good a job as his brother.
