At 9pm October 17th the doors opened to let in the crowd for the first CEU Loserpalooza.
The show named after its larger national counterpart Lollapalooza, was formed in the same fashion, to create a place for local upcoming bands to play and get exposure.
Sponsored by the business club as a fund-raiser, the members of the club willingly jumped into an area that was full of problems and controversy.
The club initially was looking to have Hitch, Stupid Sexy Flanders and Nudnik play at the show. But CEU’s administration was apprehensive about letting a band with Hitch’s reputation play in their Ballroom. Thus Hitch was dropped from the roster.
But one thing Price is not short on is the musically talented that are constantly looking for next show.
Not All There, Solution and a band from northern Utah quickly accepted the invitation to play. The show was then accepted as a trial bases, if it went well then the club could do more shows.
To the disappointment of the club members and their fans Nudnik backed out at the last minute, luckily Lemon Jumper stepped in to take the slot. But with this many bands involved it would take more planning than the club had anticipated.
Food service accepted a “catering” job for a soda bar at the show. A.S.C.E.U. president Jed Lloyd helped the club work out the ticket booth and the maintenance crew were helpful with the two stages that needed to be set up.
Melissa Ligget and Andrea Fisher passed out fliers at the local high school and even as far as East Carbon High. They distributed an astounding 2,500 fliers between the three school campuses and the local businesses.
With this much advertising they expected a large crowed.
With U.E.A., the deer hunt season opening and the weekend the crowd didn’t end up as large as anticipated. Total in attendance was about 150.
Chairman of the business club, Erik Falor stated, “it was certainly a success a lot of people showed up and had a good time.I had a good time putting it together and it was cool to work with the bands.” Keenan Ryan, drummer for Lemon Jumper stated, “didn’t think so many students liked local bands.”
The club, with the success and the experience from this show plan to do similar events in the future. Currently Falor is planning shows for December, January, March and possibly one for the end of the year.
Stupid Sexy Flanders is planning a show with Not All There in SAC’s Old Ballroom on Oct. 30, then plan to head to the studio and throw down some tracks.
Lemon Jumper is doing a show at the Hard Rock Café in Trolley Square today and signed a contract and is spending their weekends in the studio.
The business club is doing beat the pro bowling competition at the Helper bowling alley.
Next time you see a flier or hear of a concert remember to come by and check it out and support your local bands and the business club.
