Lloyd joins recruiting staff

Jed Lloyd, a name that is familiar to many, is back at CEU for at least one more semester. CEU’s former student body president is the new high school recruiter intern working for Todd Olsen, director of admissions and scholarships.
All of higher education institutions, both private and state owned, have representatives travel together and have a day in which seniors learn their options after high school. The day includes an assembly and three half-hour sessions. Starting Sept. 7th, Lloyd will travel the state, representing CEU in recruiting new students. He will recruit at two high schools each day.
“I work directly in the Ambassador’s Office answering questions, being nice and friendly plus handing out candy bars, while the supply lasts,” he quipped.
He tells prospective students that they should attend CEU because of the size of the college, instructors know who you are, the friendly campus, the activities are great, a location one hour from a mall, but still in the great outdoors with the opportunity of transferring to a four-year college or university.
The transition from CEU student body president to Ambassador Recruiter has been a little strange. “As the Ambassador Intern I am not attending classes, because I am working all day. Seeing all of the other students doing homework, stressing over teachers and talking about what hot girls or cute boys are in their classes is hard because I am not a part of these things.
“As ASCEU president, I worked on campus to serve the students that were already here. I was able to see a lot of the ‘behind the scenes’ happenings at CEU. As the Ambassador, I will be working from a totally different aspect. Now I get to work with potential students trying to convince them of the benefit of coming to CEU to begin their higher education experience.
“I think being student body president has helped prepare me for this role. A recruiter represents the entire school and needs to be well versed in all the school has to offer. As student body president, I was able to gather a lot of information that I otherwise would not have been able to,” he said.
Lloyd has experience on both sides of the fence. “The Ambassadors and Student Leaders work as a team. Our job as recruiters would be near impossible if it weren’t for the student leaders. They help make CEU the great place it is. They fight for the students’ rights and provide an arena for them to develop socially. A lot of the selling points of CEU have to do with student leaders. Whereas, student leadership would have no one to lead if there were no students coming to the school.
“It is bittersweet. I sometimes get the feeling that I am still on ASCEU Leadership, and then when I realize I’m not, I feel a wave of relief come over me. Being on student leadership is not easy. It is demanding physically, emotionally and mentally. However, it is worth it, and I don’t regret being a part of it for a second. That being said, it sure is nice to know that someone else has that responsibility placed on him. Dan Wood is a great man, and will do an excellent job. I am already excited about what I’ve seen so far this year,” Lloyd stated.
He saw an opportunity to give back to CEU and offer the same great experience he had here to many other students across the state.

“I love this place. What more can I say?”
