CEU business students rise to the top in the “mile-high city”

While most college students were enjoying their summer vacations, the College of Eastern Utah’s Phi Beta Lambda team was busy setting a new school record at the national PBL competition held in Denver, Colo., in July. The team brought home two third-place trophies and one fourth place trophy.
Their three top finishes were earned when they competed against hundreds of business students from colleges and universities from around the nation who participated in the conference. The purpose of the conference is to promote leadership qualities in students and make them aware of current opportunities and challenges facing future business executives.
CEU participated in four major events; public speaking, Rebecca Coster; C++ programming, Erik Falor; impromptu speaking, Billy Lanier; and parliamentary procedure consisting of the team of Falor, Donald McCarty, Melissa Liggett and Shanielle Howa. Falor, Coster and Lanier took third place in their respective events while the parliamentary procedure team duplicated last year’s results by taking fourth.
“Competition was stiff at this year’s conference so it is great to see CEU’s business club do so well,” said Lanier. CEU has consecutively produced individuals who have placed at the top level of national competition. One of the club’s advisers, Ron Vogel, said, “Not only are the PBL students who participated in the events intellectually gifted, they are extremely nice and are fun to hang-out with.”
