Carbon County native, Peggy Golding, accepted a position as an advisor of Student Support Services at CEU. Golding replaces Scott Lindguist, who left for employment in Colorado.
Graduating from CEU and Utah State, Golding obtained a degree in elementary education. She began graduate study at the University of Utah in recreational leisure, early childhood education and educational psychology. She fulfilled all courses and research, but has not yet completed the final comprehensive exam.
She worked at the University of Utah in the Early Childhood Education Center for 17 years; two of which she taught and 15 she served as director of the program. “It was a lot of fun,” she said.
The mother of five is excited to be in Price. “It was time to be back here,” so she and her two youngest children could be closer to her parents. Whether it is camping, gardening or hiking–“when my knees will let me,” she slips in– this native loves all things outdoors. She is “dying to go out on the desert.”
Just starting her work with SSS, her goals are to “serve the students and learn how she can best do that. “I want to get to know the students and find out what I can do to be supportive of them.”
SSS “finds students that are first-generation, low-income or disabled” and assists them throughout their college experience. Golding’s responsibility is to “support the students with whatever they may need,” including scheduling classes, acquiring tutoring, gaining multi-cultural understanding and obtaining transferring information. She plans to take students to see other colleges in the state and speak with the academic advisors. The goal of SSS is to get students “beyond” CEU, transferring them to a four-year college or university.
