Finding other CEU students online

I get online, go to my favorite website, log in and check my messages. I want to see any comments on my blogs, pictures or profile. I check my groups to see if anything exciting is happening. I message a few friend and may post a new bulletin. Last, I check who is coming to CEU. This was a daily ritual this summer.
The webpage I’m talking about is www.myspace.com. Myspace is a free service that uses the internet for online communication through a network of photos, weblogs, user profiles, an internal e-mail system, web forums, groups and other media formats.

The webpage I’m talking about is www.myspace.com. Myspace is a free service that uses the internet for online communication through a network of photos, weblogs, user profiles, an internal e-mail system, web forums, groups and other media formats.
The term MySpace is used to describe a user-created webpage on the MySpace.com service. MySpace has close to 30 millions users age 16 and up as of September 2005. Myspace enables people to create a webpage that can include pictures and information about themselves. You can write blogs and post bulletin, personalize a page by using html or one of the many webpage editors. Then add your friends to your page by looking them up by their first and last names or e-mail addresses, or you can make new friends by browsing through a database of all the members.
You can also join groups on myspace ranging from religious to gaming. CEU even has a group page, simply add your school to your profile and it lets you view all the myspace members who have attended or are attending CEU.
I met a few of my good friends on CEU’s Myspace page. I did not know anyone coming to CEU, so I went to CEU’s page and wrote e-mails to a few people that sounded interesting.
CEU’s myspace page has 160 students on it and 117 alumni. I chose to browse through current students to meet people to hang out with. When I was looking for people to e-mail, I would go to the pages with similar styles or interesting pictures. I payed close attention to how people projected themselves. If they sounded cocky or stuck up, I would not waste my time. If they sounded kind, unique and fun, I would read on. An example would be if the person skateboarded, painted, enjoyed art or liked to learn it peaked my interest. I would also look at what books they read. I love to read and am a sucker for a good conversation on books. Finally I looked at the kind of music they liked. If they had good taste in music, they were definitely in. Once I thought I would like the person, I would e-mail them with something like this:
Hey, my name’s Angela. I noticed that you’re coming to CEU this fall. I’m going to be attending CEU, majoring in mass communication and staying in AJ.
You seem like an interesting person, and I don’t know anyone going to CEU so far … What are you majoring in and where are you staying?
I met two good friends this way: Beau Wuthrich and Marie Fitzgerald.
If you are interested in meeting more people from CEU or making new friends with similar interests, go to www.myspace.com and build your profile for free.
