Eagles annihilate CNCC, split with Dixie State College

All sports teams simply love a home game. That is where your Golden Eagles were cheered on to victory against the Colorado Northwestern Spartans, and a week later splitting with the Dixie Rebels.
Upon the Spartans assent to the BDAC on Feb. 3, they were quickly humbled by the CEU hoopsters, who thrashed them 97-86. Tyler Billings stood head and shoulders above the rest, zipping around the court. His shot was dead on as he lead the team with a whopping 26 points, as well as in rebounding, bringing 11 into his custody.

The next night, a disheartened Spartan squad made their way back onto Eagle terrain, where Mike McCrary chalked up 21 points. Belford Williams obtained nine rebounds, in a run away game. The CEU Eagles crippled the Spartans once again, with a final score of 82-51.
The Dixie Rebels were next to venture into the BDAC and risk a game against the Eagles. CEU dominated in the first few minutes of this round-ball romp, gaining upwards of a 19-2 lead, but, “that’s kind of like fool’s gold.” According to Coach Bryan Zollinger who stated, “when you have two good teams playing each other, early leads don’t usually pan out all that much.” This held true as the Rebels made their last stand, catching up with the Eagles and bringing life back to the game. Billings made sure that history repeated its self as the Rebels lost a close fight, topping the rest of his team with a monstrous 30 points.
The final score was 91-90 albeit CEU “getting thin up on the front line.” As put by Zollinger, the Eagles were lacking several of their leading scorers, John Rogers for disciplinary reasons and Billings breaking his nose early on in the game. Zollinger said it was “packed full of gauze” to stop the blood from running before reentry Zollinger said about Billings, “we salvaged a good man.” Also Tate Sorenson and Williams, both on the verge of fouling out of the game, with an early three a piece.
Infuriated, the Rebels returned the next day striving for a victory over the home team, who was still trying to make up ground usually covered by Rogers. Once again the game was intense, “a mirror image” according to Zollinger. The game once again kept spectators nervous for the outcome, no matter what team they were cheering for. Even with Sorenson’s behemoth 29 points and eight rebounds, the Rebels took the lead and held it to the buzzer, defeating CEU 73-70 after a wearisome quarrel of a game.
The Eagles next will swoop in on the Snow College with a season record of four wins and eight losses, this game takes place in Ephraim, Utah as they continue conference play on February 17 and 18. After which, they head to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho for a hardwood skirmish with the college of Northern Idaho with a nine-win, five-loss record through conference play. CEU will finally return home to the BDAC on March 3 and 4 to play their last season games against the eight-win, six-loss, Salt Lake Community College Bruins at 7:30 p.m.
