Men beat Snow, fall to North Idaho

As the close of the men’s basketball season is rearing it’s head, the Eagle crew faced off against the Badgers of Snow College and the North Idaho College Cardinals. After the two week road stand the Eagles had split, winning two and losing two.
The action started February 17, and 18 as the Eagles soared through Ephraim, Utah leaving Snow College stooped in shame, despite Coach Zollinger feeling that, I don’t think our defense was very sharp, very intense.
In the Inaugural competition, showing tremendous teamwork, both Tyler Billings and Mike McCrary launching the ball for a team leading 17 points a piece. All the while Tate Sorenson did his part in the 80-68 killing, by topping his team under the rim, forcing seven rebounds into his dominion.
Once again the next night the jittery Badgers met up with the CEU men, who once more showed their prestige by conquering Snow 81-77. Tyler Kepkay demonstrated his ball mastery, scoring 20 big-ones for his troop. Sorenson gave the Badgers a reminder of his ferocity under the basket retrieving five rebounds on the game.
North Idaho was next up for your Eagles, and even though playing, quite a bit better than we did against Snow, Zollinger said. The Eagles lost both games, the first 75-81, proceeded by a final of 71-78
Scheduled next is Salt Lake Community College, and will take place in the BDAC March 3rd at 7:30 p.m. and the 4th at 5:00 p.m. If CEU can manage to win both home games they will clinch the number three spot in conference standings. Which in turn would result in a draw of the lowest seeded team for the play-offs, which will begin March 8 and be played through the 11th in Coeur d’ Alene, Id.
In the games against Salt Lake the men of the team are going to have to step their game up a notch or two in order to fill a void of Sorenson’s severely sprained ankle, who “played last week, but was only about 50 percent.” According to the coach. Also with a severely sprained ankle is Trent Goodfellow. As well as a chance that Belford Williams may be missing the weekend do to personal reasons.
Having Sorenson injured will be an obstacle not easily overcome by CEU as Sorenson leads the team in field goals with 137 drained in 189 attempts, a percentage of .725. Also in free throw attempts and free throws made with 50 made out of 90 attempts, making an average of two a game. Sorenson also tops the teams chart with 181 rebounds, or about 7.2 a game. Blocked shots is another category that is dominated by Sorenson with 40 on the season
