Pre-nursing/business are top majors

According to the statistics at the beginning of this school year, the majority of College of Eastern Utah’s student body has chosen to pursue a degree in liberal arts. Pre-nursing and business were also popular amongst the student’s desired fields of interest. However; zoology and microbiology were found to be less popular amongst the students.

According to the statistics at the beginning of this school year, the majority of College of Eastern Utah’s student body has chosen to pursue a degree in liberal arts. Pre-nursing and business were also popular amongst the student’s desired fields of interest. However; zoology and microbiology were found to be less popular amongst the students.
There are currently 401 students seeking a degree in the field of liberal arts proving it to be the most popular this year. The students pursuing a degree in pre-nursing this year totals 110, which is just shy of last year’s total of 136 students and business/commerce is following closely behind with a total of 90 students.
Some of the least popular fields of interest for this year include archeology, information science/studies, building construction, data processing, economics, electronics, family and consumer science, journalism, foreign languages and literature, law enforcement, mining and mineral engineering, microbiology, system administration, museology/museum studies, physical education, physics, pre-veterinary studies, social sciences, sociology and zoology which all have only one student majoring in each.
Some of the other popular categories for this year include criminal justice majors 65 students, nursing 49, cosmetology 36, engineering 34, early childhood education 29, welding and technology 24, elementary education 21, psychology 20, pre-medicine 18, dramatic theatre and arts 18, automobile mechanics 17, education 17, business administration 15, biology 11 and pre-dentistry 10 students.
Less popular majors this year with nine students declared are drafting, pre-pharmacy studies, pre-physical therapy, and diesel mechanics. Computer science has eight majors as well as English language and literature and industrial electronics; accounting has seven as well as building construction, systems networking and music; communication studies has six majors; construction/heavy equipment operating, six; art, five; civil engineering, five; history, five; mining tech, five; and administrative assistant, four.
Those programs with three students declaring majors in specific categories include: chemistry; dance; industrial electronics; mechanical engineering; engineering, forestry, pre-law, and special education.
Social work has two majors as well as sports and exercise, electrician, electrical engineer, geology, political science and mathematics. Three students have not yet decided what they would like to further pursue towards a degree, and 129 students are currently not seeking a degree.
