Cost effective welding procedures for managers and supervisors
A cost effective welding procedures one-day workshop is being offered by the Western Energy Center on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. by Lon Youngberg.
The course will cover the welding process and cost effective procedures from start to finish. From the customer’s standpoint, does the fabrication perform the intended service and will it last as long as it is intended? Will the fabrication be completed within cost and on time?
A cost effective welding procedures one-day workshop is being offered by the Western Energy Center on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. by Lon Youngberg.

From the engineer’s standpoint: does the weld and its heat affected zone meet the critical base metal requirements that are necessary for the intended service?
From the manufacturer’s standpoint: how much money does it cost to make the weld and are there inspections or requirements associated with the weld?
From the welder’s standpoint: does he/she have clearly designed instructions including weld size, joint design, material type, stress relief and welding procedures? Are the fabrication requirements achievable, accessible, positioned and taking into consideration distortion control, weld size, inspection requirements and fabrication sequence?
Youngberg has a bachelor’s of science degree in welding technology from Utah State University College of Engineering, master’s of science degree in industrial technology from Texas A & M University and is a doctoral candidate in curriculum & instruction from Utah State University’s College of Education. He is a AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and AWS Certified Welding Educator (CWE).
He has over 20 years of continuous employment in the welding industry, holds two welding related patents and received the Utah Welding Educator award from the American Welding Society. CEU Welding students have won the Utah SkillsUSA welding competition four of the last five years and consistently rated among the top 10 in the nation. Consequently, they have been invited to the USA Welding Trials for four years running.
Prior to teaching at CEU, Youngberg held engineering technology positions for the aerospace and oil-field industries — most recently as and employee and consultant for Halliburton Energy Service’s Dallas manufacturing.
Cost for the workshop is $250 per person with the class size limited to 10. The fee includes lunch and the $50 manual: American Welding Society – Design and Planning Manual for Cost Effective Welding.
