Baseball team enjoys sunny weather but no wins

The Eastern Utah baseball team dropped all three of their first pre-season games with a road trip to Scottsdale, Ari., last week where they played Phoenix Community College, Scottsdale Community College and Coshise College.

This was the baseball team’s first time outdoors since it snowed in December so they had not seen much live pitching, catching or hitting in a long time.

In their first game against Coshise, CEU lost 7-1, getting five hits. In their second game against Phoenix, CEU lost 8-4 and got six hits in the game. Playing Phoenix again, the Eagles lost the game by 10, 14-4 with seven hits.

CEU played Scottsdale last, losing the first game 10-3 and getting five hits. The next game against Scottsdale they lost big again, 11-2. The third time the two teams played, CEU lost 12-2 and only got one hit.

Head Coach Scott Madsen said, “The games went just like expected. We made the mistakes that you make when you haven’t played out doors for a while. We improved every game, and by the last game we were in the game right into the last couple of innings. I am proud of how these boys played and am excited to see how they do as the season continues.”

“This will just show us what we need to work on. It was like one game we would have our bats and not have pitching. Once we get everything together, we will definitely compete,” says Trever Thompson.

The team is on the road this weekend in Las Vegas. Next weekend CEU looks forward to hosting Weber’s club team if the field is considered playable.
