A Germany enthusiast – interested in anything and everything to do with the German culture – Steve Goodell is the College of Eastern Utah’s Power Forward on the men’s basketball team.

Goodell hails from Fort Collins, Colorado where he attended Rocky Mountain High School. While growing up, he would play basketball with his brothers in the driveway. This bonding time is what inspired his interest in playing basketball throughout high school and college.

His siblings went on to play in conferences, where the CEU team was also playing. Goodell was impressed with the team, and was offered the opportunity to “come walk on”. Since then he has enjoyed attending CEU. “English classes are the best; especially when taught by Carrie Icard, I love her, she is my heart,” Goodell passionately states, “Oh, and Mark Bunnell’s classes, he’s the man.”

When not sitting in class or enduring practice, he enjoys tie-dying shirts and reading books. His favorite book is Acie Law’s biography. “He’s a great man.” Goodell also looks up quotes from Mitch Hedburg and Bryan Regan for inspiration. When he gets bored doing that, he heads over to Kasey Day’s room to eat candy, looking for his favorite candy bar, a Milky Way.

Other favorites include eating out at Outback, delving into Cookies-n-Cream ice cream, and watching Nacho Libre. Goodell drives a blue Saturn Ion with a dream catcher, “because I’m 1/69th Cherokee.” When he heads home, he looks forward to hanging out with his “blood”. His family consists of his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
[On the gym floor], “I usually have a positive attitude,” Goodell says, with a note of sarcasm. Fellow teammate, Aaron England, is his role model. “I listen to him and only to him.”

When asked who the hardest team he has played against, his response was, “SLCC [Salt Lake Community College] or CSI [College of Southern Idaho].”

Right now he has “no clue” where he is going after CEU, then as an afterthought, “Yeah, me, Leon, and Acie Laws are going to play on the Atlantic Hawks team.”

Goodell’s accomplishments, according to Colby Vranes, can be surmised as “Pfft, what accomplishments?” However, Coach Craig says, ” Goodell came in on a partial scholarship and has worked extremely hard to be on a full-ride scholarship now. He’s a great man; one he is just that great of a person and player, you want him on your team. Two, he’s 6’7″, tough, and can really, really, shoot the ball well. He does all that he can, even the little things, to make sure that the team can win.”

Goodell shows the same kind of attitude towards his coaches, “My respect and admiration has grown for them [my coaches] since the beginning of the year.”
All in all, Goodell is good at what he does, and has proven himself to be an invaluable asset to the team.
