Good deed brings hope
Everyone knows what it is like to lose something whether it be car keys, the remote, or something more personal. It can be frustrating, if not heartbreaking. Brenda Rawson, Director of CEU’s GEAR UP program, endured one such event. While attending a workshop at the Jennifer Leavitt’s Student Center in December, Rawson realized that she had misplaced something dear to her: her wedding band. No matter where she looked, she could not find it. Rawson has been married to her husband for 38 years and was devastated when she wasn’t able to locate the ring.

Everyone knows what it is like to lose something whether it be car keys, the remote, or something more personal. It can be frustrating, if not heartbreaking. Brenda Rawson, Director of CEU’s GEAR UP program, endured one such event. While attending a workshop at the Jennifer Leavitt’s Student Center in December, Rawson realized that she had misplaced something dear to her: her wedding band. No matter where she looked, she could not find it. Rawson has been married to her husband for 38 years and was devastated when she wasn’t able to locate the ring.
Knowing it had to be somewhere in the student center, she asked around for several days. Fearing the worst, she came to the conclusion that she would never see the golden band again. As she explained her dilemma to friends, some told their own personal stories of losing something, only to have it miraculously returned. So, with this in mind, she harbored a small hope that the ring just might surface.
Finally, after about a week of stress and worry, Rawson was told that there might be a chance someone had located the band. Contacting Sheila Burghardt, from the Physical Facilities department, Rawson was told that the supervisor, Dan Turner, had found a gold ring and it had been in his office for a few days. Hoping that it might just be hers, Rawson went to the office to identify it.
Just as she had hoped, her golden wedding ring was waiting there on the desk. She contacted the gentleman who had found it, expressing overwhelming gratitude and joy that he had been honest, turning it in. The man responded that he was glad that he was able to help her, stating that he was only doing his job. Though her story may not be as fantastic as some, it is still amazing to see that good deeds happen every day. In a world that is so caught up in getting ahead, it is refreshing to see little moments of happiness brought together by the simple act of doing something kind.
