Tuesday CEUSA meetings focus on students’ social lives

Student government members meet on Tuesdays to discuss upcoming events each month.
President Andrew Hardman thanked each committee member for their hard work in raising student attendance at campus activities. Some activities included the Lite Brite Dance, True Eagle Night and several stomps. CEUSA members also discussed how to make future events more enjoyable.
During the week of Oct. 24, Jan Thornton, CEU’s student counselor, sponsored Stress Relief Week. The week focused on hosting activities that students could enjoy with a stress-free atmosphere. Part of the events included a late-night breakfast, movie night at the wave pool, comedy night and a stomp, along with other events held daily in the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center. Every event was well attended with plans to continue the week next year.
CEUSA meets every Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the college boardroom to discuss the welfare of the students’ social lives. What would college be if not for the social experience? Although students go to school to further their education, part of the learning is in the social aspect of their lives. Interacting with students and taking amazing stories with you is part of the whole college experience. The student body representatives are in charge of making those stories happen.
Students are invited to sit in on the open meetings, as their opinions are important in deciding what type of events will be held. If there is an activity that someone would like to see happen on campus, he/she has the right to have their voice be heard. If a student wanted to have a pie eating contest, or an ultimate Frisbee tournament, the committee would listen to the suggestions and take them into consideration.
Members of the student body council, including ambassadors, senators and officers should be applauded for their accomplishments. Each member spends much of his/her spare time trying to improve each student’s college experience. They are there to ensure students have the best time possible at CEU.
Although some may think that CEUSA is there for scholarships and looking good on a resume, student government is sincerely devoted to the students. “The most enjoyable thing about student government is the people you serve … in everything you can, think about the people, ” Hardman said. Each meeting is spent deciding what would be in the students’ best interests to see on campus. What more could you ask from your student body officers?
Hardman and committee leader Todd Olsen are involved in everything that happens on campus. Not the type to sit back and let others make something happen, the two leaders are right in the mess of things giving nearly all of their time and energy for the students.
If students want to get involved, CEUSA is more than happy to show their appreciation. For their help, students get something in return, including free passes into dances or activities, free shirts and apparel, and add their own touch to the events. It’s a win-win situation for everyone involved.
In the student center, posters and bulletins are everywhere advertising upcoming activities. Also, every issue the newspaper publishes a calendar of upcoming events. If there’s a night that you don’t have homework and are bored, go to one of the events. What do you have to lose, except a chance at having a great time?
