Alexander Herzog prepares to take over the dean of students’ position at the College of Eastern Utah spring semester with a humble and approachable style.
Herzog is a New York native, who resides in Las Vegas where he is on course to finish his doctorate degree in educational leadership this month. According to members of the administration, they feel fortunate to have him join their team.
“I plan on coming in here and observing how things get done at CEU through the eyes of a consultant,” said Herzog. “I have always found that to be the most effective way to get a real feel about the people that I will be working with, ultimately letting the position lay itself out for me. This approach also reveals weak spots in the system that I may be able to adjust, especially due to the fact that I am new to the school. Sometimes a new set of eyes can be a very powerful tool to help make a difference.”
Herzog specializes in science and education, and according to his resume, has an extensive history of working with and leading students. The new dean has expressed his commitment to strive to improve any activities or departments he is involved in. Students and faculty both agree that these are qualities that will be especially valuable at CEU.
According to Herzog, an open- door policy is how he operates and encourages students to take advantage of this.
“I am always open minded when it comes to ideas other than my own. I promote students ideas. I am always accepting of input from others,” mentioned Herzog. “One good idea can cause a significant amount of positive change with the right support and teamwork.”
Herzog will be arriving in Price in December making the transition from the Las Vegas heat to the greatest snow on earth. Herzog and his spouse Shawna have two young children, Prescott and Aubree, who, according to the couple, are excited to come.
According to Herzog, one of the main reasons for moving to Price is to benefit his children.
“I grew up in a small town in upstate New York and feel that it is beneficial for my children to grow up in a smaller community,” said Herzog. “There is a certain quality found in a small town, where big cities are so much more impersonal.”
On behalf of CEU’s students and faculty, everyone would like to extend a warm welcome to Alexander as the new dean of students and wish him and his family the best of luck as new residents of the community.
