Support the community’s downtown businesses

Do you ever take the time to see what this community has to offer? There are a lot of local stores that have been here for quite some time.
Many neat stores are around here that we don’t notice, because most of us go to the one store which has it all: Wal-Mart. I wonder, could they really have it all? Have you ever wondered where you could get paintball supplies or penny candy? How about all of us poor college students that only have a dollar or two lying around. Did you know that we have two dollar stores in this town?

A new activity the local stores are sponsoring is Downtown Alive. This will be held during the first three Saturdays of December. This is an activity where the stores invite the community to get involved with many events they have planned.
This is a great opportunity to take a break from studies and have some fun in the community. One of the many activities planned is the gingerbread house display. The stores invite anyone to use their creativity in designing a ginger bread house. Take your creation to Office, Etc. for display by Dec. 10th. A silent auction is planned with proceeds donated to Spencer’s Wishes.
Santa will visit three stores: JC Penney’s, Western Photography and Top Line Computers. Take your children to get pictures with Santa Claus.
Be sure to make it to a Christmas matinee at the Price Theatre at 2 p.m. Admission is a can of food per person and donated to the Carbon County Food Bank.
There will also be many other activities including caroling with the Sounds of Christmas. They invite anyone to come and join and have a ton of fun while shopping. These are just of few of the many activities that the local stores have planned.
The local stores not only support the community during the holiday seasons, but also during the rest of the year. Many are not aware of what they really do.
The stores help out with many programs such as the Breast Cancer Foundation, Helper Arts Festival, church and school organizations. Fashion Crossroads is helping with CEU’s bridal show. Another store that contributes is the Southeast Paint by providing CEU students with scholarships up to $3,000.
These stores show us a lot of support and it’s about time that we do the same for them. So get out there and visit the local stores near you.
