Can the lady Eagles come back?
The College of Eastern Utah women’s basketball team was riding a two-game-winning streak, when they ran into Salt Lake Community College and Snow College last weekend.
On Dec. 29 in Arizona, the lady Eagles took on Chandler-Gilbert College in a non-conference match up. CEU won the game, 76–70. Kaylie Robison turned in a double-double racking up 26 points, 11 rebounds and one assist. Bruna Deichmann and Livnat Alon also contributed to the win. Deichmann had 11 points, two rebounds and one assist, and Alon had 10 points, two rebounds and six assists.

The lady Eagles were in the zone after the win and the next day they blew past Eastern Arizona College with a 77–51 win. Deichmann was the leading scorer of that game with 18 points one rebound and three assists. Robison also had a good game with 12 points and nine rebounds.
CEU was on a hot streak, and hoped to continue their impressive play against conference rival the Salt Lake Community College Bruins. The Eagles faced off against SLCC, and were unable to continue their win streak, suffering a 69-58 loss.
The Bruins are ranked no. 1 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference with a record of 8–0, and ranked no. 2 in the National Junior College Athletic Association with a record of 16 – 1. Deichmann was the leading scorer for the lady Eagles in that game with 23 points. Savana Gines also scored eight points and had one assist. And Robison had 11 rebounds with six points.
The next day the lady Eagles took on the Badgers of Snow College and lost the game 78-65. The Badgers are ranked third in the SWAC, with a record of 4 – 4.
Deichmann was again the leading scorer for CEU with 15 points, two rebounds and two assists. Gines was also a top player for the Eagles in Saturday’s game, with 13 points and three assists. And Stacey Stringham scored 11 points with six rebounds. These two devastating losses put CEU at no. 5 in the SWAC standings, with a record of 2 – 6.
This weekend, on Saturday, Jan. 16, the lady Eagles face off against North Idaho College Cardinals, on their Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, campus. The Cardinals are ranked no. 2 in the SWAC conference polls, with a record of 6–2. This will be the second match up between these two teams. The lady Eagles are hoping to avenge their home loss to the Cardinals in December.
Don’t forget to come out and watch the team take on Colorado Northwestern Community College Spartans for the third time this season. The game will be played on Jan. 23, at 3 p.m. at the Bunnell-Dmitrich Athletic Center. The lady Eagles are looking to beat the Spartans for the third consecutive time. CNCC are ranked no. six in the SWAC conference standings with a record of 0–8.
