Every young basketball athlete dreams of being a champion, Aaron Hawk-Harris has now lived that dream. Hawk expressed how winning the SWAC championship in Price, Utah, on March 6 takes the cake of his favorite basketball memories. “Soon as the buzzer went off I realized we were champions. I’ve never won a legit championship before and it felt good.”
This win and a following win against Mesa Community College sent Hawk to Hutchinson, Kan., for the NJCAA National Tournament with the other CEU basketball team members.
Hawk expressed that this was an incredibly fun and exciting time. He said he only had a little bit of jitters before the first game, but after the men stormed the court, he was ready to play. The most embarrassing moment for him at the tournament was when he completely biffed it while dribbling in front of many college and university coaches.
His favorite basketball moment before his time at CEU is when he hit the game-winning shot his junior year of high school that sent his team to the city finals.
Hawk is great asset to the men’s basketball team. Teammate Nick Thompson, said “Hawk is a very vocal player with freakish athleticism. He’s a great player and person, and was a huge part of this year’s success.”
Hawk is from Inglewood, Calif., where he grew up close to his mom and his sister. He spoke of fond memories that he shared with his two closest family members. His favorite was at the age of 12 when the three of them drove to the North Bay area and visited San Francisco just for the fun of it. This was also the age he began to get serious and like basketball.
On his off time, or when he isn’t in the gym, Hawk enjoys watching all kinds of DVDs and playing video games, especially Halo. Now that basketball season is over Hawk said, I’m now just a regular student, it’s kind of boring.”
His plans after basketball is not set, but he hopes to be pursue a career in marketing. Next year Hawk says he will probably come back, so all CEU fans can see him in action one more year.
