Student strives to help others with SUN Center
Courtney Reynolds, from a young age, has been involved in service. As this year’s co-vice president of the SUN Center, she is excited to continue helping others. “My parents are very service oriented,” she explained. “They are always watching for people who are in need, and never hesitate to jump in and do what they can.”

Courtney Reynolds, from a young age, has been involved in service. As this year’s co-vice president of the SUN Center, she is excited to continue helping others. “My parents are very service oriented,” she explained. “They are always watching for people who are in need, and never hesitate to jump in and do what they can.”
This great example has provided Reynolds with a foundation for service. “I love how service affects people. You never realize how much good you are doing and how many people you have actually helped. One simple act of service can start a ripple effect that can help families for generations.”
As part of the SUN Center presidency, Reynolds has high expectations for this year. One of her main goals is to help people understand that service is more than a chore. “I want to show people that you can serve while still doing what you love to do.”
Reynolds is involved in several projects this year including the Active Re-Entry’s Run, Walk and Roll for Independence fundraiser and the Breakaway Program. Active Re-Entry is an organization that helps those who have become disabled regain their independence. “Imagine waking up one morning and not being able to see. We are trying to help Active Re-Entry assist those who have those disabilities.”
The Breakaway Club, which Reynolds is heading this year, provides an alternative spring break option to students who want to help. In past years, the Breakaway Club spent the week of spring break at the Navajo Reservation near Bluff, Utah. Projects have included building wheelchair ramps, corrals, walkways and roofing a church building. “Breakaway is a great opportunity to forget about yourself and your problems and just help others.”
