Former USU-CEU graduate Michael Glover announced ESPN player of the week

It’s hard to forget the accomplishments of former USU-CEU basketball player Michael Glover. Since the beginning of his basketball career, he has been on fire, given awards like they are going out of style. However one of his biggest to date was on Dec. 7, 2010, when he was announced as the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, Dick Vitale’s Player of the Week on ESPN.com, the ECAC Player of the Week and the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week. He now plays for the Iona College Gaels.
After playing at CEU last year, Glover was recruited to Iona College of New York where he started his junior year. Thus far, his numbers have been unbelievable, leading the team in most points and rebounds. This season, his team’s win-loss record is 10-6. Glover achieved the high points in 10 of the 16 games and the high rebounds in 13 games.
As of Jan. 9, he lead the Gaels in points, scoring average, field-goal percentage, field-goal attempts, field-goals made, free-throw attempts, free-throws made, rebounds, rebound average, offensive rebounds and defensive rebounds.
USU-CEU’s Coach Brad Barton is proud to have had the chance to help Glover last season. “I loved it. He was competitive, a good person. We still stay in touch at least every month. He is just a good friend, [a] good person.”
While Glover played at CEU, he was named All-American; he played with the best team in the school’s history; and he was named the SWAC Player of the Year, SWAC All Tournament and to the All-Tournament team at the national NJCAA tournament in Hutchinson, Kan., in March. Barton added, “He did well here.”
Barton has no question that being coached at CEU helped Glover accomplish this. “[Coach] Chris Craig had a big impact in his life, and I hope I had a small impact. It was the first year of school he made it through. Craig really helped him become a man on and off the court. I know he is proud of Michael.”
