Lots of love in Locks of Love

The College of Eastern Utah’s cosmetology department’s tenth annual Locks of Love will take place on Saturday, Feb. 26 from 9 – 2 p.m.
Last year the cosmetologists cut 900 inches of hair with 53 people participating in the event, including 19 children who had at least 10 inches of hair cut and donated to the program.
Melanie Huff (637 – 8277) spearheads the project. The program that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under the age of 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss.

Last year the cosmetologists cut 900 inches of hair with 53 people participating in the event, including 19 children who had at least 10 inches of hair cut and donated to the program.

Huff said the hair is made into a wig that can cost between $3,500 to $7,000. The wigs are donated to children free of charge or on a sliding scale, based on financial aid.
Besides cutting hair, a silent auction will take place.
According to the Locks of Love website, the wigs provide self-esteem and bring confidence back to the children. It helps enable them to confidently face their world and peers.
