Baseball team continues to spiral
The Utah State University-College of Eastern Utah Golden Eagles trudged through two more weeks of their season as they strive to improve. The Eagles ended their nine-game losing streak. However, their record for the last eight games is 1-7. Hopefully the Eagles can improve their standings and move up from being tied for last place.

Friday, April 8, 2011, USU-CEU ended their nine-game losing streak while visiting the College Southern Idaho, winning four to one. The Golden Eagles out-hit CSI seven to four. In those seven hits Tyler Slesk went one for three scoring one run. Mason Moore went one for three as well with a home run. Craig Brinkerhoff played well hitting two for three with one home run and one stolen base. Kody Christofferson competed in a pitching duel throwing six innings with only four hits and one earned run.
Game two of Friday resulted in a loss for EU by one point, the final score was 7 to 6. EU returned to their previous pitching habits using six pitchers to throw nine innings, none of which lasted three innings. Jace Harris received the loss giving up five hits and two runs in only 2 2/3 innings. Zach Benson led the team with two hits scoring a run. Ben Kraja, Mason Hollingsworth and Christofferson all had doubles, that were either RBI’s or lead to a run being scored.
Game three of the four game series on April 9, was another loss by one point, 7 to 6 for CSI. Brinkerhoff played well going two for four with one RBI, one double, and one triple. Brinkerhoff also scored three of the six runs. Nuho Kraja also went two for four with one stolen base. Jordan Hepworth received the loss as the second reliever. Coulter Moore had a decent outing pitching 5 1/3 innings only giving up three hits and three runs and recorded four strikeouts.
The Golden Eagles lost the fourth and final game of the series 9-2. CSI out-hit Eastern Utah by nine, as they only had three between the 13 players that had at bats. Moore, Carlson, and Harris were the only ones to record hits. Colby Tidwell received the loss pitching 3 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and six runs. Ullibarri, Sinjon Longman, and Jonathan Mills closed the last 2 1/3 innings collectively giving up three hits and three runs.
The weekend of April 15 and 16, USU-CEU traveled to Nevada to play Western Nevada College in a four game series. In the first game USU-CEU lost 7-4. In the second game WNC once again won 10-0. Hardman was the losing pitcher. He pitched two innings.
The first game of the second day the Eagles lost, 16-5, Jace Harris was the losing pitcher. He pitched one inning, gave up four hits and four runs. In the final game of the series the game was called after five innings. The score was 10-2 leaving USU-CEU beaten once again, giving the team with another seven-game-losing streak. Swenson was the losing pitcher.
