The morale of students
“On a ship, with your crew, if the morale of the crew is not in high standing, what happens? Mutiny,” explains the Eagle editor and chief Mae Goss. For the 2011-2012 academic year USU-CEU student body, a lot of the morale is left in the hands of Webb Whatcott.
In February, Whatcott was elected vice president of activities. “I wasn’t planning on sticking around next year and then Rachel Ryan approached me and asked if I would be interested in running. I thought about opening my options, ran, and won,” he explains of his decision to start the race for the EUSA officer position.

“On a ship, with your crew, if the morale of the crew is not in high standing, what happens? Mutiny,” explains the Eagle editor and chief Mae Goss. For the 2011-2012 academic year USU-CEU student body, a lot of the morale is left in the hands of Webb Whatcott.
In February, Whatcott was elected vice president of activities. “I wasn’t planning on sticking around next year and then Rachel Ryan approached me and asked if I would be interested in running. I thought about opening my options, ran, and won,” he explains of his decision to start the race for the EUSA officer position.
Whatcott will be replacing Willie Woodruff in this position. Woodruff has great respect for Whatcott as he expressed, “I feel very comfortable with Webb taking my place. He does his job.” Whatcott shares a mutual respect with his predecessor and said how he thought that Eagle Frenzy was a huge success and Woodruff did a great job. He also articulated how he would like to keep this event next year.
Though Whatcott did not want to reveal a lot of the new ideas and activities he is planning, he did speak of a specific event he would like to bring about. “One thing I would like to see more of is a live music venue.” At one time USU-CEU (then CEU) was host to great performers including Sheryl Crow and Jodie Messina, and Whatcott is interested to see if live music venues would be something of interest to the students.
He was born in Gunnison, Utah and grew up in Holden, Utah. When he was 19, he served a two-year mission for the LDS Church in Milano, Italy. Right now his major is undeclared as he is just working on his generals. In the future, Whatcott plans to attend either the University of Utah or the University of Arizona with intent to eventually become a pharmacist.
The craziest thing that has ever happened to the new vice president was during spring break this past year. He spent his spring break with the SUN Center Break Away project at the Navajo Reservation. During an intense trimming of an apricot tree, a random branch went into Whatcott’s ear and broke his eardrum.
He is dependable as he jumped into the position of EUSA Athletic Representative and president of the Scream Team mid year. The student body is lucky to have someone willing to jump in and get things done.
The morale of students strongly depends on positive experiences; fun, uplifting activities is a way to get students involved. VP Webb Whatcott has a big year ahead of him, but the Student Body should be confident in electing him to represent them.
