Utah State University Eastern had a quick two weeks full of games. They took a mid- week trip to North Idaho College on October 19, just to play back to back on October 21-22 against Salt Lake Community College and Snow College. To end their conference play before the region tournament. The Lady Eagles played North Idaho and College of Southern Idaho at home.
Coach Chelsey Warburton said, “It was just a long weekend with lots of travel. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a win.” USU Eastern lost to North Idaho in three games. Despite the loss, USU Eastern stayed close with the scoring only being down by five or six points. North Idaho led with 25-20, 25-20, and 25-19.
SLCC was a similar story for the Lady Eagles. The team lost in three. Even though the Bruins won, the Eagles kept the scoring close. SLCC won 25-22, 25-20, and 27-25. “We had two calls that didn’t go our way in the final game,” commented Warburton.
During the Snow match, USU Eastern lost the first game, won the second and lost the next two. “We didn’t play great. We had a few good moments, but couldn’t get it going,” said Warburton. The scores again stayed fairly close. Game one was 25-17 with a Snow win. Then Eastern with 22-25. The third game was a set back with 25-13 capturing a Snow win with 25-21.
For a final week of conference games, Eastern had home court advantage. They beat NI in three games. “The girls played their hearts out. They played like they are capable of playing all the time,” commented Warburton. Things did not seem to go the Eagles way all the time, but they still played hard and put together a strong win. Warburton said, “They just had fun.”
Saturday October 29, 2011 the Lady Eagles played their final home game against CSI. “The first game was played like Friday night’s game,” said Warburton. The Eagles won the first game and lost the next three. First game score was 25-20. Then CSI finished the game scoring 25-14, 25-20, and 25-13. “We had a few down moments, especially in the third game we let down a little. By the end of the game was had lost the emotion we had from Friday’s game,” Warburton admited.
This weekend marks the start of the Regional tournament in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Warburton said.
“We leave Wednesday to play. Snow is our first game. We will take one game at a time. We have beat them once and lost to them once Working on the small things is one focus, but making sure the girls keep up the confidence they have is our main focus. They have the tools to beat anyone we proved that by beating North Idaho who is the number one team in our conference. Our big thing is staying confident and playing with their heart.”
