Former student charged
A former USU Eastern student has been charged with kidnapping, robbery and extortion with bail set at $15,000. She and two men allegedly lured a man from his home in Helper in the middle of the night to kidnap, beat and rob him.
Hannah Marie Downard, 21, was booked into Carbon County Jail for investigation of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery and theft by extortion.

According to KSL.com, the trio showed up at the man’s home at 1 a.m. on Dec. 2. He apparently agreed to leave the house with the three because he was an acquainted with the woman, said Helper Police Chief Trent Anderson. Once inside the group’s vehicle, the man was tied up at gunpoint and driven to a “remote part of Carbon County.”
Police said the man had been beaten, robbed of his wallet and car keys, forced to provide his attackers with his debit car PIN, and then stripped of all his clothing except his socks and underwear.
The two men charged were Monty Charles Emmons Jr., 24, who was arrested at his parent’s home in Sandy and Justin Brent Marrs, 22, who was arrested after he pulled over on I-15 in Nevada.
Preliminary hearing for Downard is Feb. 1, 2013.
