Volleyball season comes to an end

The 2014 USU Eastern volleyball season wrapped up last weekend in Twin Falls, Idaho, with the Eagles losing in the first round. They went into the tournament in fifth place with a 3-7 record, which they earned the week before when they dropped games to Snow College and Salt Lake Community College.
On Halloween weekend, the ladies faced Snow on the road and lost in three sets: 25-15, 25-23, 25-13. During their match against the Badgers, Jasmine Covington led the team with nine kills followed by Carly Dalton with six. Leading the team in digs was Koralys Gonzalez with 13 digs, followed by Melissa Judd with six. Covington, Dalton, Michaella Crooks and Kyndall Gardner all had two blocks each.
The next day the Eagles traveled to Salt Lake City to face SLCC, losing in three sets: 25-14, 25-18, 25-13. Dalton led the team in kills with seven following closely by Judd with five. Gonzalez led the team once again with 11 digs, followed by Covington and Mason Steel with two digs. Gardner led the team in blocks with four and Dalton following with two.
The next weekend the team traveled to Twin Falls, Idaho for their end of the year Region 18 Tournament.
The Lady Eagles faced North Idaho College in the first round of the tournament. In the close battle, the ladies lost in four sets 1-3. Dalton led the team in kill with a total of 11 kills and Judd followed with ten. Gonzalez led the team in digs with a total of 17 with Judd following with 12 digs. Gardner with four blocks led the team with Judd, with three blocks followed closely.
NIC continued on only to lose to College of Southern Idaho in the semi-finals. CSI ended up taking first place and earning a bid to nationals.
SLCC, after defeating Snow College in the semi-finals, moved on to face CSI. The Bruins lost and took second in the tournament, which earned them a bid to nationals.
Head coach Chelsey Warburton was happy with how the season turned out. She said, “We played great teams and competed well. We lost some close five-set matches that we should have won.” Warburton is looking forward to next year and is recruiting heavily, having to replace six sophomores. She said, “We will be recruiting for each position for the next season.”
