Sophomore center fielder Collin Wilson is more than ready for the upcoming season. The returning starter plans to be a big contributor for the highly anticipated year. “The team this year looks great, we all get along, and if we can bring ourselves together as a team, and play the game one pitch at a time, we can be unstoppable.”
Wilson fell in love with baseball at age three when his dad bought him a ball and glove. “I’d like to thank my dad for always supporting me, and showing me the right way to play the game,” White said. Making his dad proud is a source of motivation for him and he pushes himself with the thought that he wants to keep playing the game he loves as long as he can. “If I work hard and have the season I know I can have, I’ll find a place to play for a few more seasons,” he said.
Baseball has taught Wilson how to perform under pressure and how to not give up even when overlooked. He is only 5 feet 7 inches tall but doesn’t lack any heart or talent. “I’ve played and defeated guys that are a whole lot bigger than me. I know that when others see me, they overlook me because of my size. That’s just one of the reasons I love the game so much, you can be any size and dominate the game.” Wilson is not wrong, just take the AL MVP and 2017 World Series Champion Jose Altuve. As one of the best, if not the best, player in the game, he comes in at only 5 feet 6 inches tall and 165 pounds.
When Wilson was 12, his travel team participated in a tournament in Cooperstown New York, home of the MLB Hall of Fame. Many players that go there credit it as one of the coolest baseball experiences, Wilson agrees. “The atmosphere in Cooperstown is insane. Baseball was invented there and nothing comes close to the love for the game the city has.”
Price has become home for Wilson, he likes its size and how there are no major problems or drama. “The friends I have made in Price are not just friends, but brothers and teammates. We push each other every day to get better and they help me reach my full potential. I know our friendships are going to continue well beyond this town.” he said
