“Butters” eager to get on the diamond

Hailing from Riverton, Utah, 5A state champion Seth “Butters” Butterfield, is entering his sophomore campaign for the Eagle’s baseball team. Butters won a state championship while playing at Jordan High School. “When we got the final out, I went absolutely insane, I was so excited to get that ring, months of hard work and great clutch play from my team paid off,” he said.
Butters loves baseball more than anything. That love is what brought him to Price to extend his playing career. “I knew I wanted to keep playing baseball and I know it was the right decision. My love for the game has grown even more since I got here; practicing every day proves my love, it is something that I enjoy, it gets you better and I am so hyped up for this season because I know that myself and the team have put in the work necessary,” he said.
He believes the most important part of a baseball team is, “Team chemistry is a must. Everybody has to want to win at all costs, can’t have selfish players bring others down.” The team this year has the best team chemistry of any team he has ever been a part of.
The season begins in less than two weeks for the Eagles and Butters says the team will be ready to play. “We have gotten back in the swing of things and [have] been outside practicing the fundamentals.”
Butters plans on winning many games this season. “We have such a solid squad with a lot of experience. We are returning seven players who started in the Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament last year. We may be the most experienced team in the SWAC this year.” The baseball teams first games are in Las Vegas, on Jan. 26, against Arizona Western.
Lastly, Butters couldn’t leave out how much he has enjoyed his time in Price as an Eagle. “This is my fourth and final semester in Price. The brothers I have made on and off the field will last a lifetime and I will give them my all this season. When my final out as an Eagle comes I will be able to look back with no regrets, I’ll leave it all out on that field.”
