Athletic Eagles in the spotlight: soccer edition

Ammon Bennett

Bennett grew up in Ogden, Utah, and attended Bonneville High School. He went to Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. After Ricks, he attended William Penn University and coached track, mens soccer and womens soccer. He coached men and women’s soccer at Iowa Western Community College for 15 years before coming to Utah State University Eastern in 2014. The women’s soccer team is on re with a 6-1 record this year. “We will continue to work hard and improve on the year,” Bennett said.

Shealee Heywood

Heywood was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and raised in Farmington, Utah. “Playing soccer and being good at it was basically the No. 1 requirement in my family so my soccer career started when I was three years old,” she said, “From that point on, I loved the sport because of the lessons learned and forever friendships made.” Heywood is a freshman at Utah State University Eastern and is working on her general education requirements. “I expect great opportunities to continue to come throughout my life and excited to work hard and see what comes from it,” she said.

Jared Woodhouse

First-year head coach, Jared Woodhouse was born and raised in Orem, Utah, and later moved to St. George. He works at Pinnacle Nursing and Rehab in Price. A soccer coaching job opened at USUE and he was hired as
the assistant coach for the men and womens soccer programs.

He’s coached soccer since he was 17. “I love the beautiful game so much that I’ve always been interested in the X and O of the game,” he said. The mens soccer team played well this season. “Our goal is to compete for the region championship, but we have a ways to go in order to accomplish that.”

Parker Huff

Parker Huff was born and raised in
Ogden, Utah, where he attended Fremont High School. He is a freshman at Utah
State University Eastern, and is studying international business. He came to Eastern
on a soccer scholarship.

He says that soccer is a way to escape from the world, it’s fun and he loves it.

He said the season is going good so far and the team has a lot of chemistry. “I think we have a lot of potential; we have a lot of talent on the team,” Huff said. “I think we have a lot of potential to win a lot of games and make it far into the playoffs.”
