The Utah State University Eastern women’s soccer team wrapped up the end of their season in the Scenic West Athletic Conference tournament. The Eagles face the Salt Lake Community College Bruins in the semi-final game.

The Eagles played a hard-fought match but came up short losing 5-2 to end their season.  Goals were scored by Ashley Brindley and Morgan Cragun.

Three of the 2019-20 Utah State University Eastern women’s soccer team took home Region 18 All-Region honors Friday, November 1 at the conference tournament hosted by Salt Lake Community College.

Defender Madison Nicholls was awarded first team all-conference. The sophomore from Plain City Utah is a two-year starter for the eagles. Nicholls played in all sixteen games this season, starting fifteen of them. She was a huge asset for the defense this season with her defending ability and scrappiness.  Nicholls plans on graduating with her associate’s and wants to go into physical therapy at Slcc.

Freshman forward Ashley Brindley from Saint George earned second team all-conference. Brindley, in her first-year season, scored twelve goals and had three assists. She plans to play another year for the eagles and is working towards her generals.

Meg Edwards, a freshman Keeper from Layton also earned second team all-conference. Edwards started all sixteen games this season. She has an .821 save percentage, saving 87 shots to go with also having five consecutive shutouts to start the season. Edwards plans to play another year for the eagles and is working toward getting her associate’s in general studies.

Sophomore captain, Nicholls said regarding the past season “This past season went well in my opinion. We lost some great players in preseason that would have changed how the rest of our season went, but we still fought our way through. It was an interesting season with all of the players that got hurt because we had to change and adapt our game as we went. Overall I believe we gave all of our opponents a good fight.”

The Eagles now will prepare for the upcoming 2020-21 season with approximately 16 returners and the recruiting class.
