Eagles struggle to keep win streak

Over the past two weeks, the Utah State University Eastern  mens basketball team struggled to keep its win streak, losing four of six games. 

Three of those games were held in Ephraim, Utah, at the Snow College Tournament, where they lost to Lamar Community College and Central Wyoming College and  defeated Eastern Florida State College. 

The next week they lost to Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs, Wyo., lost to Central Wyoming College in Twin Falls, Idaho, and defeated Shoreline Community College in Twin Falls, Idaho. 

“I’m very hopeful, we have a ton of talent and good character on the ream and with that we believe we can continue to work hard and trust that good things will come off of the good work,” said assistant coach Ray Jones Jr.

Eagles lose to Lamar CC

Eastern’s team lost to Lamar Community College 64-63 on Nov. 14. The Eagles scored 33 points in the first half and 30 in the second while Lamar CC scored 40 points in the first half and 24 in the second. 

The top scorers of the game were Jeffery Hunt, Vojtech Ruzek, Dillon Sorensen, Christian Haffner and Veljko Ilic.

Hunt scored 16 points, had two rebounds and two assists. Ruzek scored 13 points, seven rebounds, two assists and three blocks. Sorensen scored seven points and grabbed two rebounds. Haffner scored six points, had two rebounds, two assists and three steals. Ilic also scored six points, had four rebounds and one assist.

Eagles lose to Central Wyoming

The Eagles lost to Central Wyoming College 72-62 Nov. 15. The Eagles scored 26 points in the first half and 36 in the second while Central Wyoming scored 25 points in the first half and 47 in the second.

The top scorers of the game were Donoval  Avila, Jeffery Hunt, Dillon Sorensen, Anthony Condie and Christain Haffner.

Avila scored 15 points, two rebounds and two steals. Hunt scored 12 points, two rebounds and three blocks. Sorensen scored ten points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal. Condie sored nine points, seven rebounds, two assists and one block. Haffner scored seven points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal.

Eagles beat Eastern Florida State

Eastern beat Eastern Florida State 61-51 on Nov. 16. The Eagles scored 28 points in the first half and 33 in the second while Eastern Florida scored 12 points in the first half and 39 in the second. 

The top scorers of the game were Christian Haffner, Vojtech Ruzek, Donoval Avila, Peyton Falslev and Dillon Sorensen.

Haffner scored 20 points, had four rebounds and one assist. Ruzek scored eight points, four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal. Avila scored eight points, six rebounds and four steals. Falslev also scored eight points and had a steal. Sorensen scored five points, two rebounds and three assists. 

Eagles lose to Western Wyoming CC

The Eagles lost to Western Wyoming Community College 76-67 on Nov. 19. USU Eastern scored 34 points in the first half and 33 in the second while Western Wyoming CC scored 42 points in the first half and 34 in the second half.

The top scorers of the game were Gabriel Olivrira, Turahn Thompson, Christian Haffner, Vojtech Ruzek and Donoval Avila. 

Olivrira scored 12 points, five rebounds, two assists, one block and a steal. Thompson scored 11 points, two rebounds, one assist and three steals. Haffner scored nine points, three rebounds, one assist and two steals. Ruzek scored eight points, two rebounds and two assists. Sorensen scored seven points and had two steals.

Eagles lose to Central Wyoming 

Eastern lost to Central Wyoming College 85-79 on Nov. 22. USU Eastern scored 31 points in the first half and 39 in the second while Central Wyoming scored 35 points in the first half and 35 in the second.

The top scorers of the game were Gabriel Oliveira, Donoval Avila, Dillon Sorensen, Turahn Thompson and Vojtech Ruzek.

Oliveira scored 24 points, nine rebounds, one assist, one block and a steal. Avila scored 14 points, two rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Sorensen scored nine points, four rebounds, two assists one block and a steal. Thompson scored nine points, four rebounds, two assists, three blocks and six steals. Ruzek scored eight points, ten rebounds, three assists and a steal.

Eagles defeat Shoreline CC

The Eagles beat Shorline Community College 72-66 on Nov. 23. USU Eastern scored 37 points in the first half and 35 in the second while Shoreline scored 31 points in the first half and 35 in the second. 

The top scorers of the game were Gabriel Oliveira, Vojtech Ruzek, Donaval Avila, Veljko Ilic and Anthony Condie.

Oliveira scored 21 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Ruzek scored 11 points, nine rebounds, two assists and a steal. Avila scored ten points, three rebounds, four assists, one block and three steals. Ilic scored seven points, six rebounds and a block. Condie scored seven points, six rebounds, one assist, a block and a steal. 

The Eagles were supposed to face Laramie County Community College at home on Nov. 30 but the weather forced the cancellation of the game. They faced Western Wyoming Community College Dec. 3, at the BDAC.
