Woodhouse named head soccer coach at Eastern

As the Utah State Eastern womens soccer team reached winter break and the end of fall semester, they least expected to have a new coach for the upcoming season. On Dec. 23, the team received a text informing them that head coach Ammon Bennett, resigned. 

Bennett accepted a new womens soccer head coach position at Casper Community College, in Casper, Wyo. Bennett coached at USUE for the last six years and will be missed. 

On Jan. 6, the athletic department announced that mens soccer head coach Jared Woodhouse accepted the position to coach both the mens and womens soccer teams. In the past season, the mens team coach Woodhouse helped the Eagles with a 5-5-5 season overall record and led them to the Scenic West Athletic Conference semifinals. 

“I’m excited for our new coach and the new players that have been signed,”said freshman-forward Ashley Brindley. 

 “I think that Jared’s coaching style will be much better for our team and think we will have more success.” Coach Woodhouse said, “I’m really excited by the challenge that it’s going to be to coach both teams. I’m excited to be there full time rather than part time and be more a part of the college. The womens team is going to be solid and if not better than last season, though it may lack a little depth.

 There will be an increase in accountability for the womens team for their position and playing as a team rather than individuals. I’m excited for the future and looking forward to this upcoming new opportunity.”

Woodhouse grew up playing soccer his whole life. He played club soccer, high school soccer and went onto play college soccer at Dixie State University. He attended Dixie and Utah Valley University and graduated with a degree in physical therapy.

 Woodhouse grew up in Orem, Utah, until 16 when his family moved to St. George. He was able to graduate and play soccer at Snow Canyon High School. He lives in Cleveland, Utah, with his wife and children.
