WBB dominates end of season play

Utah State University Eastern’s basketball team finished the Scenic West Athletic Conference play strong with a blowout victory over rival College of Southern Nevada. On a fantastic night for the Eagles, Chelsey Warburton won her 100th game as a coach.

The Eagles were on fire in the first quarter, hitting an incredible seven three-pointers to start the game. Hannah Wentworth, in particular, went on a tear this game. Wentworth was a true sharpshooter in the first quarter, making five out of six. Wentworth would go on to make six threes in the first half and the game.

The Eagle’s defense was just as impressive as the offense. Southern Nevada struggled to get open looks; the lady Eagles’ man-to-man defense smothered the Southern Nevada offense, holding the Coyotes to just 25 percent from the field.

This game was never close; the Eagles led the whole game and would go on to win 84-44.

Coach Warburton picked up her 100th win as a head basketball coach. After the game, she was given a special tribute by USU Eastern Athletic Director Scott Madsen, who also presented her with an honorary plaque and banner.

She improved the Eagles from the moment she walked in the gym six years ago. Her record currently stands at 100-73, and in 2019 she led the Eagles to their best record in years, going 24-6 and were co-champions of region 18. “What a special night to end with at home,” Warburton told ETV News. “I am grateful for Coach Mo [Morgan Nielsen], Coach [David] Paur, and the talented players who have been a part of this journey with us.”

The women dominated this game from start to finish, showing what they’re capable of on the offense and defensive end.  The Eagles look to build on their recent wins as they prepare for the Region 18 tournament. On April 8, the tournament kicked off in Richfield, with the Eagles facing CSN again.
