Baseball puts up a fight against USU club team and CNCC

The USU Eastern Eagles stayed busy these past few weeks as they travelled to Smithfield, Utah, to take on the USU club team before returning home to face the Colorado Northwestern Spartans. 

The Eagles had a rough start to the four-game series against the Aggies, losing the first game 7-8. Dylan Sanchez, Gabe Childs and Easton Gordon led the charge, helping the Eagles take the series, 3 games to 1. Final scores were 8-7, 6-1 and 16-1 in favor of the Eagles. 

In game one, Kaden Stewart started the game for Eastern. The righty allowed three hits and three runs over three innings, striking out six.

 Eastern racked up 12 hits with Ryder Peterson and Max Nichols each racking up multiple hits for the Eagles.

In game two, Mason Nielson was the winning pitcher for Eastern. The pitcher went four innings, allowing zero runs on three hits, striking out three and walking one. Dylan Sanchez led USU  Eastern with two hits in three at bats. 

In game three, Gabe Lundbeck got the win for the Eagles on the mound. The right-hander threw seven innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out seven.  Eastern tore up the base paths, as three players stole at least two bases. Ethan Udy led the way with two. 

In game four, Max Nichols pitched Eastern to victory. The pitcher allowed two hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out two and walking zero.  The Eagles notched seven runs in the third inning.

The Eagles returned home to face the Spartans of Colorado Northwestern Community College. The Eagles had a tough battle against the Spartans, fighting out a 2-2 series tie. Parker Applegate, Ethan Udy and Kaden Kunz were stalwarts at the plate for the Eagles, tallying multiple, multi-hit games for USU Eastern. 

In game one, Karter Pope pitched Eastern to victory. The right hander allowed six hits and three runs over five innings, striking out nine. Kody Nelson threw four innings in relief out of the bullpen. Nelson recorded the last 12 outs to earn the save for Eastern. 

The Eagles smacked three home runs on the day: Dylan Rodriguez, Dylan Sanchez and Kaden Kunz. The score was 8-5 in favor of the Eagles. 

In game two, Parker Buys took the loss for Eastern. The right-hander lasted seven innings, allowing six hits and five runs while striking out 14. Rodriguez and Udy each managed one hit to lead Eastern. The final score was 5-1 in favor of the Spartans. 

In game three, Hayden Brock took the loss for Eastern. He surrendered three runs on zero hits over seven innings, striking out 10. Applegate led Eastern with two hits in three at bats. CNCC won 3-1. 

In game four, Mason Nielson got the win for Eastern. The righty lasted four innings, allowing four hits and zero runs while striking out one. Eastern scattered 11 hits in the game. Sanchez, Nichols, and Kunz all managed multiple hits for USU  Eastern. The final was 13-6 for the Eagles.
