The USU Eastern Women’s Basketball team is off to a 9-8 start after back-to-back victories on consecutive days at Community Christian College in Redlands, California and a loss at College of Southern Nevada.

Eastern defeated the Saints 77-28 and 92-51 before losing 57-49 in Henderson.

Against Community Christian, Ella Bradley led the team in scoring with 39 points in the two games. Bradley was 6-for-9 from the field and 3-for-4 from three-point range in the first meeting. Paula Barbosa added 14 points and Ashelynn Birch 11. Brooklyn Palmer pulled down 13 rebounds.

Game two saw four Lady Eagles score in double figures. Eastern was on fire from the field, shooting over 40% and a scorching 50% from the 3-point line.  Bradley scored 22 points, with six rebounds and three assists. Marge Fillmore made 10-of-13 from the field to score 20. Kinlee Toomer scored 17.

The hot shooting cooled off  to 29.7% from the field in a defensive battle against College of Southern Nevada on Saturday. Maclani Michael and Alexandra Olson scored 11 points each.

USU Eastern, 4-2 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play, looks to get back to their winning ways this week when they will face Snow College twice and Salt Lake Community College once over seven days. Eastern will host the Snow Badgers on January 20, before travelling to Salt Lake Community College on the 22nd. The Lady Eagles will then travel to Ephraim, Utah once again to take on the Lady Badgers for the third time this season.

These next stretch of games are going to be tough for the Lady Eagles as their next three opponents have a combined record of 20-13, with one of SLCC’s few losses coming to Snow College.

In their matchup against the Badgers, the Lady Eagles will look to slow down Kennedy Eskelson and Ashlee Edwards, who have put up impressive numbers for the Lady Badgers.

Eastern will have their hands full against the SLCC Lady Bruins, led by Naelle Bernard and Allyzee Verdan, both excellent on the offensive and defensive ends of the court.

This week will go a long way in sorting out for Eagle fans whether USUE is one of the best teams in the conference.
