Brinkerhoff Promoted to USUE Athletic Director

Jess Brinkerhoff, Utah State Eastern’s first full-time athletic trainer, has been named the school’s athletic director.

Jess Brinkerhoff, Utah State Eastern’s first full-time athletic trainer, has been named the school’s athletic director.

“We conducted an exhaustive search with more than 50 applicants from across the country,” said Associate Vice President Greg Dart. “Jess exhibits the work ethic, demeanor, and attitude to be a tremendous athletic director.  The community, the campus, and all of our student athletes will benefit from Jess’s leadership.”

He replaced Scott Madsen who resigned to change careers.

Brinkerhoff received a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Southern Utah University in 2014, then worked there while getting his master’s degree in sports conditioning and performance. He was the softball trainer at SUU and assisted with men’s basketball and football. He taught sports medicine and anatomy to local high school students through Southwest Applied Technology College in Cedar City.
 
After finishing his master’s degree at SUU, he spent two years at Lee Williams High School in Kingman, Arizona where he taught sports medicine, medical occupations and coached the softball team to a 15-8 record.

 
USUE hired him In 2017.  By 2019 he had added more roles, filling in as the human anatomy professor, teaching the lecture and labs for a year. He added strength and conditioning coach to his skill stack and coordinated the expansion of the athlete’s gym to give teams a place to lift in a team environment.

 
In 2020, he was promoted to director of sports medicine and athletic performance. He has overseen sports medicine and strength and conditioning for all athletic teams. He also created an introduction course to athletic training at Utah State University.
 
Brinkerhoff comes from the small town of Bicknell, in Wayne County Utah, and lives in Price with five other “J’s,” his wife Jessica, and their four children Jocelyn, Juliet, James, and June.
