Outdoor Recreation Opportunities

The outdoor rec offers trips that are completely free to students each semester. Just recently, the outdoor rec took 15 students on a trip to Soldier Hollow in Midway, Utah to go tubing. The trip was filled with opportunities, laughter and free fun.

The Outdoor Recreation Center is a new addition to the Utah State University Eastern Campus. It is located in the garage underneath the purchasing and police building, right next to the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center.

The outdoor recreation center offers many opportunities for the students on the Eastern campus, one of those being the opportunity for leadership. The outdoor rec is run by Allie Chamberlain and six student leaders. These student leaders receive a scholarship for the work they do at the outdoor rec each week. Their workload includes, doing office hours in the rec and planning one recreational activity each semester.

Another opportunity that outdoor recreation offers is the ability to check out numerous types of outdoor equipment at no charge to students. The outdoor rec has bikes, scooters, camping gear, sledding gear, climbing gear, water activity gear, yard games and much more.

If you are interested in seeing what they offer, come down to the rec and see for yourself. The outdoor rec also takes recommendations, so if there is something you want to see at the outdoor rec, feel free to let our leaders know. They will try their best to make it happen.

Students of Eastern can come into the outdoor recreation and check out any of these items during scheduled hours. The hours include: Monday – Thursday 11 am-7 pm, Friday 12 pm-5pm, Saturday 11 pm-2 pm, closed on Sunday.

Additionally, the outdoor rec offers trips that are completely free to students each semester. Just recently, the outdoor rec took 15 students on a trip to Soldier Hollow in Midway, Utah, to tube. The trip was filled with opportunities, laughter and free fun.

“I had so much fun planning this trip,” Annabelle Hooper, the trip leader for this event said, “I love being able to take students out and show them outdoor activities, I can’t wait to plan more trips.”

The outdoor rec also took a group of students to Moab, Utah to go rock climbing and rappelling. Once again, these trips are completely free and could be once in a lifetime opportunities.

The outdoor recreation center on the Utah State University Eastern campus is a great place for students who want to explore the outdoors. It offers so many opportunities that wouldn’t otherwise be available and it really adds to the college experience.

If you are interested in becoming an outdoor recreation leader, you can attend Utah State Eastern’s Leadership Summit on March 23 and 24th to interview. Applications for Leadership Summit are due March 10.
