Scream VI review

This Scream does a lot different than all of the others in the franchise, but it still follows a lot of the similar tropes. That being said, this Ghostface is the most brutal and scary ghostface, none of the others even come close.

Scream VI is the sixth installment in the Scream franchise, featuring the city of New York. The tagline for the movie was “New York New Rules,” and they definitely stayed true to that. I’m going to do my best not to spoil anything but let this be your official spoiler warning. The first kill follows the traditional start of the Scream franchise, but with some twists. We see a film professor waiting for her date in a fancy looking restaurant, when he calls her to explain that he is lost. He then asks her to go outside to check the color of the building, and then lures her into an alley where she is slain by ghostface. That’s not the end of the scene, you have to watch it for yourself.

Then we cut to Sam Carpenter, the daughter of Billy Lumis, one of the original ghostfaces. Carpenter is with her therapist and she tells him how she had to kill her boyfriend after he tried to kill her in Scream 2022. At the end she says that it felt right, leading to her therapist kicking her out of his office. Which isn’t something any therapist should do, there are several other ways to handle that situation. He just happened to pick the worst.

This Scream does a lot different than all of the others in the franchise, but it still follows a lot of the similar tropes. That being said, this Ghostface is the most brutal and scary ghostface, none of the others even come close. This Ghostface doesn’t follow the traditional Scream rules. This Ghostface is smarter and planns out every second of their spree, and has one of if not the highest kill count of any other Ghostface in the series.

This is also the first Scream to not feature Sidney Prescott, the final girl of the first four Scream films. Honestly she had no place in this movie. After seeing it twice, I just can’t think of a place that she would’ve fit in. Plus, they handled her absence perfectly. This is probably my favorite installment of the franchise, and it’s one of those movies that you want to see more than once. When you leave the theater you want to go and see it again right away, which isn’t very common with horror movies. This Scream just had so much to unpack, and the mystery aspect of it is done perfectly. Scream VI is a solid nine out of ten and I recommend everyone to go see it.
