CSN USUE baseball recap

Next for USUE is four home games against College of Southern Idaho at home before going to Idaho for four more. The two= teams are separated by one game in the conference standings.

After 20 games on the road to start the season, the Utah State University Eastern Eagles had their first home series against the No. 14 College of Southern Nevada Coyotes.

In game one of the series, CSN jumped out to a quick lead in the first and added on in the second. In the bottom of the second USUE got a run back from a Kaden Davis single to make the score 5-1. It was all CSN after that, scoring one in the fourth and six in the fifth. Davis Kirby hit a solo home run in the bottom half of the sixth inning, but that was not enough as CSN won by the mercy rule, 12-2.

Game two was a low scoring affair that needed extra innings to decide a winner. USUE got out to a 1-0 lead in the second after Creed Mogle hit an RBI single. CSN answered immediately in the top of the third, taking a 2-1 lead. The score stayed that way until the bottom of the ninth when Kaden Davis hit a solo home run with two outs to send the game into extra innings. CSN managed a run in the tenth while USUE did not, getting themselves another win on the day, 3-2.

Game three was another low-scoring, extra-inning game between USU Eastern and Southern Nevada. USUE got the lead in the bottom of the first from a Tyler Nelson two RBI triple. In the top of the seventh CSN scored two runs to force extra innings once again. In the bottom of the eighth, Nelson walked it off with an RBI single to give USUE their first win of the series. Nelson finished the game with two hits and three RBI to lead USUE. Ky Decker started the game on the mound, going four innings allowing two hits and no runs. Carson Hawkes came out of the bullpen, also throwing four innings and getting credited with the win.

In the final game of the series, CSN jumped out to a quick lead and held on for the win. USUE scored two runs, the first coming from Seth Nate’s first collegiate home run and the second coming from a wild pitch. CSN won the game 7-2 and took the series three games to one.
