Softball Recap

After a weekend of warm weather down in Las Vegas, the Lady Eagles will be playing at Salt Lake Community College. This upcoming weekend will start the bottom half of the conference season for the Eagles.

Over the last couple weeks, the Utah State University Eastern Eagles have struggled to put enough runs on the board to match their opponents. The Eagles one and three against College of Southern Idaho, and splitting with College of Southern Nevada.

On the weekend of Mar. 24, the Eagles played CSI in Moab, Utah for an Eastern home series. Although it ended up being a rough weekend, with only one win, the Eagles were walking into the next series with confidence. Especially with that win being in five short innings. Freshman center fielder Micaela Resler stated, “We beat ourselves; they weren’t better than us. We had a bad weekend and we will get them at their place.”  With the confidence of the upcoming series still high, the Eagles went to face the CSN Coyotes in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This past weekend was a step in the right direction for the Eastern Softball team. They were able to walk away from their series against the Coyotes, winning two games and splitting the series for the weekend. With a combined total of 34 hits and 22 runs, the ladies were able to take games two and three.

Throughout conference play, the Lady Eagles haven’t been able to be as consistent as they once were in preseason. Freshman, Lexi Carroll states, “I believe a lot of our shift in how we play is mental. Pre-season was loose, effortless, and we were able to play without much pressure or tension, but now the games mean something to everyone which is creating pressure. Once we can get past the mental block, we will be successful, like before.”

With the found pressure in conference, it seems as if the Eagles bats have cooled off. Hopefully the adjustments from the beginning of the conference season will help the Eagles have a positive second half. Now that they have faced every team in the SWAC Conference (with the exception of Snow College being postponed due to weather) and have an idea of what to expect from each team, they can go into these next few weekends more prepared and hopefully walk away being more successful and a finish with a winning record.
