USUE at CSI series recap
This series puts USUE at fourth place in the conference standings one game behind CSI and four games ahead of Colorado Northwestern. The top four teams at the end of the regular season make the conference tournament.
Utah State University Eastern Eagles traveled to Twin Falls Idaho to take on College of Southern Idaho Eagles to make up a four-game series that was postponed earlier in the season.
In game one USUE came out swinging in the first. Davis Kirby scored Mack Bright with an RBI double. Kirby scored right after on a Luke Erickson single to give them an early 2-0 lead. They added two more in the second when Deavin Lopez scored on an RBI single from Vaughn Deming. Kirby scored his second run of the game when Kaden Davis brought him home on a single. CSI scored in the third to make it four to one. In the seventh Lopez singled to left scoring Ty Barker giving USUE a 5-1 win over CSI. Wayland Crane went four innings only giving up one run in the win. Troy Connell pitched the final three innings to pick up the save.
Game two was a high scoring game that CSI made a big comeback during. USUE got out to a lead in the first on a Davis single that scored Bright but CSI answered right back with a home run to tie it up, 1-1. USUE came right back in the second scoring on Gavin Douglas RBI single, a Creed Mogle RBI single and a Davis single that brought in three runs due to an error that gave them a 6-1 lead. In the third, Douglas doubled to score a run, Bright scored Douglas with a sacrifice fly and Lopez scored on an error to bring their lead to nine to one. CSI came all the way back getting a 10-9 lead after the fourth inning. USUE did what they had been doing all day and took their lead back on a Dakari Armendariz single that scored two and a Lopez single that scored one to give them a 12-10 lead. USUE could not shut down CSI, giving up three runs in the last two innings to lose 13-12.
Day two of the doubleheader was a different story, both teams struggled for hits which led to two low scoring games. Game three CSI scored a run in the fourth giving them a 1-0 lead which also ended up being the final score. USUE only managed two hits which were a single from Kirby and a single from Douglas. Carson Hawkes threw the whole game going six innings with seven strikeouts.
Game four CSI scored in the first to take the early lead but immediately gave it up in the second. Conner Bancroft scored on an error followed by Armendariz scoring on a passed ball and then Bright brought home Lopez on a single to make it a 3-1 game. CSI slowly chipped away scoring one in the fourth, fifth and then walking it off in the seventh to give them a 4-3 win.
