Technical programs takeover Eastern

On Thursday October 5, Utah State University Eastern Ambassadors planned and executed an event for current high school students all over Utah. This event was called Technical Education Day. The purpose of the event was to highlight the technical education programs that are offered on campus. High school students came to the campus and there were demonstrations in some of the departments that USUE offers. Some of these demonstrations included cosmetology, welding, diesel and mechanics, nursing, and aviation and drones. The students also got a tour of campus, and they were able to see the different things that Utah State University Eastern has in store, get a feel of college life, and find something that fits them. 

  “CTE day was a great opportunity for students across Utah to come look at what USU Eastern offers when it comes to Technical Education.”  Hannah Spackman, a current Eastern Ambassador said. “I feel like the event was a great success as many students left applying for USUE and the programs we offer.”

Students are able to actively be involved in a program, working towards their certificate, while also taking college courses at the same time. Professors here on campus want students to succeed. Karsyn Short, a former student, graduated USUE with her cosmetology license. At the same time she was taking college classes to one day get her small business management degree. She wants to open up her own practice. She loved her experience at USUE and would recommend it to anyone. Utah State University Eastern has over 90 degrees and certificates, students can even earn a doctoral degree. There are many benefits to being on campus in Price, but one of the main ones being the size of the school. The class sizes are much smaller, making it easier to connect to professors and students. USUE has a 15:1 student to faculty ratio. The professors on campus want to know their students personally, it makes learning more enjoyable and it provides a great experience to get more one-on-one instruction. 

Technical Education Day that was hosted on campus highlighted all of these perks and more. The CNC Machinery instructor said USUE is a great place for succession because of the scholarship money that is available. 

USUE is also known for their welding program. In 2022, Utah State University Eastern welding fabrication team won the national title for college teams in the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills conference. The group has won three years in a row. Utah State University Eastern is a great place to succeed and get a good education.
