Day of Caring students serve Price community

On Sept. 9, 2023, the community and students from the college including groups of athletics, student government, YSA, and many more came together to serve the Price Community.

Starting at 7:30 a.m. at Lin’s Market in Price,  everyone was treated to breakfast of juice, donuts, fruit and coffee. The students received their assignments and then everyone headed out to serve their community.

In order to help more than one service project in Price city with support, the community and university was assigned several areas to make the biggest impact. The college students and Young Single Adults’ big areas of service on at the Basin Park at the top of 300 East and the Dino Mine Park on 600 North.

The original plan was only clean up the Dino Mine Park, which turned into many separate projects because of how many people showed up. At the Dino Mine Park, the men’s basketball team, women’s basketball team, YSA, plus coaches and leadership, worked together to pull weeks, pick up debris, paint, spread wood chips and stain wood.

The USUE dance team took on the task of cleaning Basin Park with other groups to accomplish cleaning up the trail of overgrown plants and weeds. All of the students were a part of the impact that is made from doing service in the community.

Because of the students, the Basin Park and the Dino Park are cleaned. The wood at the Dino Mine Park will have less slivers for kids when playing on the playground and the Basin Park is great for walkers who use it daily.

Gracie Hirschi said, “I really enjoyed working together as a team and seeing the progress we made. I love landscaping so being at the Basin and seeing the impact we made with all the help we had was rewarding. I loved that it got our team to work together.”

The act of service brings together not just the community but the college and the students that represent the college. Serving the community made a huge impact that wouldn’t have happened without the help of people coming together.
