Welcome Week USUE 2023

On Monday, USU Eastern students received an email from Eric Curwen, Director of Campus Life, inviting them to events on campus for Welcome Back Week. Curwen caught the attention of students by stating “Get ready for a dynamic week filled with laughter, camaraderie, music, and experiences that will stay long after it’s over. We can’t wait to share these memories with you.” These events met expectations and showed our students what this week was all about. The sound of coming back to school can sometimes be daunting, but USUSA did a great job of planning events to take the stress off of the upcoming school year. The week kicked off with the Blue Blast Block Party. The street in front of the Wave Pool was lined with clubs, games, businesses, and food. Dyson Lighthall, USUSA Eastern Vice President, mentioned on the USU Eastern Instagram, “This is a chance for local businesses and our school’s teams to really get to hone in and meet our students and for the community to get involved.”

On Tuesday, students were treated to a luau at the Wave Pool. After checking in and receiving a lei, students spent the night swimming, enjoying a delicious meal, and shaved ice from local vendor Canyon Ice. Haylee Prescott, Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, said, “We loved having fire dancers, awesome catering, and students come out and have a good time at our Luau. We hope everyone had a great time and we’re so grateful for all the support and fun we had.”

Wednesday night, students headed over to the Eagle’s Nest for a night full of dancing in a pit of foam. The Hello My Name is dance is a great opportunity to meet new friends and dance off all the worries about the upcoming school year. Students were encouraged to wear white or neon to compliment the glow in the dark foam and neon paint that they were about to immersed in.

On Thursday night there was a movie night at the Fountain Field. Students were invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets, pillows, etc. to take a load off and watch Pitch Perfect. USUSA provided snacks for the activity. Everyone was able to enjoy the night of relaxing and watching a movie with friends.

The feedback from students has been amazing. Hannah Spackman, sophomore, mentioned that she enjoyed the Blue Blast Block Party. “My favorite event this week was the Blue Block Blast Party. I love seeing all of the students and community interacting. Every year it opens my eyes to all the opportunities in Price.”

Zoe Wagstaff, freshman, said, “My favorite event this week was the Foam Dance. I met a lot of new people, and had a great time dancing in the raining foam and paint.” Multiple students agree that these events were the perfect stress relief for the upcoming school year. They also provided students with a fun opportunity to see what other fun events that will take place around campus throughout the school year.
