Women’s soccer dominates CSN

USU Eastern recently traveled to Reno, Nevada for another Scenic West Matchup against Truckee Meadows Community College with a very familiar ending holding the Lizards scoreless with a final score of 3-0.

The defensive lineup for USU Eastern, led by goalkeeper Ruth Sumner, kept a tight hold on Truckee Meadows throughout the game, allowing no shots on goal. The USU Eastern defense ensured that their opponents had a difficult time finding opportunities to attack.

The midfielders controlled the flow of the game and facilitated their team’s offense with three total shots.  USU Eastern’s attacking trio made a significant impact on the scoreboard. Sadie Coggins was instrumental in the victory, scoring one goal and providing one assist. Victoria Kalista was the star of the day, contributing two goals to her team’s tally.

With this impressive 3-0 victory, Utah State Eastern soccer continues to show their strength on the field and maintain their winning momentum

Next for the Eagles was a matchup with the College of Southern Nevada Coyotes.

Despite allowing a goal for the first time this season, a balanced attack pushed Eastern to a 7-1 dominating win over the Coyotes.

Abigail Wiggins got things started with a goal in the seventh minute, assisted by Victoria Kalista. The goal was Wiggins’ third of the season. Kalista scored a goal of her own in the 15th minute, pushing the Lady Eagle lead to 2-0.

CSN answered with a goal in the 23rd minute, scored by Layla Faught.

Eastern quickly responded with a goal in the 34th minute by Andie Andrus, her eighth goal of the year. Sadie Coggins added another goal in the 43rd minute, just before the half. Coggins now has five goals on the season.

The Lady Eagles started the second half with a bang as Victoria Kalista scored two goals in three minutes to record her second hat trick of the season. Kalista now has nine goals in the last three matches, and 10 total on the season.

Keli’a Tatom scored in the 86th minute to provide an insurance goal for the Lady Eagles, her first of the year.

Ruth Sumner continued to play well in the goal for USU Eastern. Sumner recorded three saves, allowing just one goal.

“We are excited about the progress of the team,” said head coach Tracy Brady. “We play our best soccer each time we step foot on the field, knowing that our best is hard for anyone to beat. We know we have tough teams coming up, but these girls are up for any challenge.”

The Lady Eagles will next take on the Snow College Badgers in Ephraim, Utah. The match is scheduled for Thursday, September 21 at 1:00 p.m.
