USUE Baseball releases 2024 spring schedule
The Utah State Eastern baseball team recently released their schedule for the upcoming 2024 season. Eastern will start their season on Jan. 26 with a doubleheader against Gateway Community College in Las Vegas, Nevada. These games will preview what the Eagles will show us this season. After the season opener, Eastern will play Arizona Western College and Central Arizona College on Jan. 27-28.
“I’m excited for this year. The team is looking really good.” said sophomore pitcher Owen Teuscher. “During the fall season, I was impressed with our pitching staff and how solid our defense is. I have a good feeling it’s going to be a good year for USUE Baseball!”
After the first preseason games, USU Eastern will take a road trip to Phoenix, Arizona to face Paradise Valley Community College on Jan. 30. USUE Baseball will drive down to Douglas, Arizona to face Cochise College on Feb. 2-3.
“I’m looking at our preseason this year and our series against Cochise is always a fight hard fought battle. I like that the first road games are set against a good opponent to help us fill in the conference routine for times you start to learn tendencies and know the hitters in their lineups,” said USUE head coach Kirk Haney. “By playing these big four game series, we get to see how our team can adjust and play opponents over a weekend series.”
The Eagles will have a few weeks off after those games, but will host their home opener on Feb.23 against Treasure Valley Community College. The games against TVCC will begin a long stretch of home games for USUE. The next three series will all be home games, in which Eastern will play Utah State University Club on Mar. 1-2. Following that will be the conference opener for Eastern when they face Colorado Northwestern Community College on Mar. 8-9. And to finish off the four-series span of home games will be against Salt Lake Community College on Mar. 15-16.
On Mar. 22-23, the Eagles will return to Las Vegas, Nevada to face off against the College of Southern Nevada.
After the series between USUE and CSN, USU Eastern will make their way back to Price and host two series of games. One of them is a conference series, in which they will face the College of Southern Idaho on Mar. 29-30. Following these games, Eastern will play non-conference games against Community Christian College on Apr. 4-5.
The Eagles will hop on the road for two weeks in a row and their first matchup will be in Rangely, Colorado, to play against CNCC on Apr. 12-13. That next week, on Apr. 19-20, USUE Baseball will be playing against SLCC in Taylorsville, Utah.
The last home series for the regular season will be against CSN on Apr. 26-27.
The last games of the regular season will be in Twin Falls, Idaho. Eastern will face CSI to wrap up the regular season on May 2-3.
The Eagles hope to be one of the top four seeds of the conference and if they do, they will have the chance to compete in the SWAC Conference Tournament, in which the top seed of the conference will host those games. Those games will be played from May 9-11. If The Eagles come out on top, they will go compete in the District Tournament on May 16-18. If they move on from there, Eastern would be going to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) World Series in which they will face the top teams from NJCAA.
