Eagle bus breaks down during baseball trip

As the Eagles baseball team had just finished up their 10-day road trip, they drove the first couple of hours from Douglas, Arizona to Thatcher, Arizona to stay the night with no problems, they woke up the next morning and hit the road. As they were on the road, a jolt hit the bus and they started to slow down as they realized the bus had just lost power and was headed for the side of the road. The first thought was that they had just overheated and needed to be started again to get going. They waited a couple of minutes before the bus started and got on the road. They started up and thought they were going to get headed for home. A couple minutes went by and they got hit with the jolt again and everyone knew that something was wrong and we might be stopped for a minute.

“Well, this isn’t the first time this has happened,” said sophomore Tyler Nelson. “I thought maybe that it wasn’t going to last and that we would be on the road headed home within the next hour. When that went down, I don’t know if I’ve ever been angrier in my whole life.”

After the bus had gotten going again it finally had stopped for the final time. Baseball head coach Kirk Haney called the closest hotel, a Best Western, and asked if there was any way they could send any form of help to pick up a team that broke down on the reservation. A couple hours went by as the sun began to set. The hotel was able to come to the rescue. They sent two vans to pick up the baseball players and take them back to the hotel to spend the night in Chinle, Arizona.

As the morning came, the Utah State University Eastern campus sent minibuses, in the middle of the night, to take the team home.
