Women’s basketball continues conference play
The Utah State University Eastern Eagles went up against Salt Lake Community College in a neck-to-neck battle. Unfortunately, the Eagles took the loss to Salt Lake, 54-50. The Eagles trailed for the majority of the game but had clutch moments to stay close. Eastern’s starting point guard Ellie Esplin put on a show as she had the team high with 13 points with six points coming from deep. Esplin had a three pointer in the last minutes of the game putting the Eagles two points away from the lead. Esplin was the only Eagle for Utah State to score in the double digits, also shooting 75 percent from the free throw line. Summer Christensen and Hadley Humphreys both had nine points. Both Christensen and Humphreys had a total of 16 rebounds, 10 from Christensen and six from Humphreys. For Salt Lake Community College, the leading scorers were Ines Gnahore with 13, Ana Oliveira Dias and Mia Tarver both behind with 10 each. The Lady Eagles put on a show towards the end of the fourth quarter, being down by double digits and coming back to outscore Salt Lake Community College. They eventually fell short at the end of the game from free throws coming from Salt Lake. Utah State Eastern trailed behind in every quarter except the fourth quarter in points which was a downfall for them.
Utah State University Eagles came out with fire in a matchup against the Snow College Badgers. The Lady Eagles came out with a bang on top, winning 82-57. The Eagles outscored the Badgers in every quarter, except the fourth quarter, with both teams tying in points. All of the Eagles contributed to this massive win, five of the Eagles had double digit points, Hadley Humphreys was the team high with 14 points and eight rebounds from the floor. Summer Christensen with 12 points, all of those points coming from deep as Christensen was 4-6 from the three point line. Three other Eagles had 11 points in this win Ellie Esplin, Japrix Weaver, and Kianna Lighthall. Starting from the beginning of the game the Eagles came out with fire as they outscored Snow College 27 points to only 12 points and they didn’t slow down the rest of the game. The Lady Eagles had scheduled Community Christian College which was canceled so now they will have a week off and will prepare to go up against the College of Southern Nevada on Feb. 17 in Henderson, Nevada.
