The latest on USUE softball

In a four-game series against Snow College, the USUE softball team went took one game but, came up short in three of the games. They began with a 7-3 loss despite Brooklyn Gramse and Gia Bruno who both drove in all the runs at the plate. Game two offered a tight scoring affair as USUE came up short once again as they were defeated 2-0. Brinley Johnson pitched a solid game in the circle and the Eagles defense was very good committing zero errors in the field. In game three, despite an early lead for the Eagles they ended up falling short 12-4 after Snow had a seven-run third inning. Gia Bruno and Cindy Martinez both had great performances at the plate. The Eagles rallied in the final game of the series with a 7-6 walk-off win. Cambrie Jensen hit the game winning single in the back-and-forth battle between the two teams. A combination of Addison Hess’s pitching and Brinley Anderson’s and Brooklyn Gramse’s hitting were key factors for the Eagle victory.

USUE dominated the four-game series against Colorado Northwestern Community College, taking all four games from them in the weekend sweep. The Lady Eagles started strong in game one as they won 17-2 behind Addison Hess’s pitching performance and the explosion of hits from the bats of the Lady Eagles. Maddy Jennings led the team with five RBIs in the victory. Game two saw a 9-0 shutout victory thanks to Brinley Johnson’s pitching performance and offence contributions from Cambrie Jensen and Gia Bruno. Game three featured a massive 33-11 victory for the Lady Eagles. Maddy Jennings knocked in seven runs in the game along with a collective effort from the team. The series wrapped up with an 18-5 win to secure the series sweep. Brinley Johnson shined at the plate with two home runs. USUE showed their dominance on both sides of the ball, as CNCC was outmatched on the hitting and pitching side.

In a challenging four-game series against No. 14 Salt Lake Community College, the Lady Eagles faced some tough competition and unfortunately fell short in all four games. The series began with a 17-4 loss in game one, Brinley Johnson had a home run at the plate and Gia Bruno and Maddy Jennings knocked in the other runs. Game two saw another defeat, 13-2, despite early scoring from the Lady Eagles. Micaela Resler stood out with two hits and swiped to stolen bags in the game. In game three, USUE fell short once again with the score being 6-5, Maddy Jennings and Gia Bruno both stood out at the plate. The series concluded with a 15-3 loss in game four. Pitching for the Lady Eagles struggled throughout the weekend series as Addison Hess, Brinley Johnson, Jenna Thorkelson, and Maddy Jennings each faced a challenging SLCC lineup on the mound.

USUE softball clinched a thrilling 10-8 victory against the College of Southern Nevada in the series opener. Micaela Resler delivered a game winning two-run home run in the final inning. Addison Hess earned the win on the mound in game one aster a solid six-inning effort. Despite a challenging second game resulting in a 12-1 defeat, thanks to CSN’s 11-run second inning, Gia Bruno, and Micaela Resler both performed well at the plate for the Lady Eagles. USUE came out swinging in game three as their bats overpowered CSN as the final score was 13-2. Brinley Johnson hit two home runs and drove in four runs in the victory. Game four featured a win in walk-off fashion as the Lady Eagles took the final game in the series from CSN as the final score was 4-3. USUE entered the bottom of the seventh and the score was all tied up, as Gia Bruno singled which scored the winning run. USUE took three games from CSN to win the series.

USU Eastern will head on the road as they take on College of Southern Idaho at First Federal Field in Twin Falls, Idaho. The first pitch of the two doubleheaders is scheduled for Friday, Mar. 29 at 1:00 p.m.
