USUE sweeps CNCC and splits with SLCC

The Eagles started the second half of conference play going 6-2 in the past two weeks, bringing their record to 22-17. USUE faced off against CNCC in Rangely, Colorado then traveled to West Jordan, Utah to play SLCC. The Eagles swept the Spartans and split with the Bruins.

Game one against the Spartans started off the series right for the Eagles, winning the game 13-8. Wayland Crane started on the bump throwing four innings with five strikeouts and two hits. Josh Howell came in and had two hits given up with zero strikeouts. Tanner Koefed would come in and close, having two strikeouts and four hits. Bodee Goins and Hunter Gatti each had three hits, while McGwire Jephson, Sam Beck and Nate Rose each had two hits. Tyler Nelson also collected a hit.

Game two was a solid game for the Eagles winning 9-3. Kade Hansen started on the mound and had two strikeouts and six hits through four  innings. Preston Jacobson came in and threw four innings, having six strikeouts and three hits. Konner Candelot closed the game allowing zero hits in the final inning to win the game. Kaden Miller had three hits in the game while Sam Beck and Nate Rose each had two hits. Tyler Nelson also collected a hit.

Game three was a pitchers’ duel, but eventually went to the Eagles, winning 5-2. Landon Salvesen had a masterclass throwing six innings allowing six hits with ten strikeouts! Nate Rhineer came in and got the save allowing zero hits with one strikeout. Bodee Goins and Kaden Miller each had two hits while Zak Nelson, Tyler Nelson, McGwire Jephson and Hunter Gatti each had a hit.

Game four, and last game of the series, was a great win for the Eagles, winning 9-3 finishing the series in a sweep. Sam Beck started on the mound throwing seven innings allowing four hits with nine strikeouts. Jarret Kenyon came in and closed allowing one hit and getting one strikeout to shut the Spartans down. Nate Rose led the team with three hits, while Bodee Goins had two hits. Tyler Nelson, McGwire Jephson and Sam Beck each had one hit in the win.

The next series of games was an intense matchup against the No. 9 Bruins. 

Game one of the series was a back and forth game, but would eventually go to the Bruins, with the Eagles losing 6-7. Wayland Crane started on the mound throwing three innings with four strikeouts, allowing seven hits. Tanner Koefed came in and threw two innings with zero strikeouts and zero hits. Tyler Nelson led the team with three hits , while Zak Nelson, McGwire Jephson and Hunter Gatti each collected two hits. Bodee Goins, Nate Rose and Kaden Miller each collected a hit.

Game two was a massive win for the Eagles, winning 6-1 splitting on day one. Kade Hansen had a dominant game, throwing a complete game (9.0 innings), allowing seven hits with four strikeouts. McGwire Jephson led the team with two hits in this game while Tyler Nelson, Bodee Goins, Sam Beck, Hunter Gatti and Mack Bright each collected a hit.

Game three’s score was 5-0, and was total dominance on the mound for Landon Salvesen, throwing 7.0 innings and only allowing four hits with eight strikeouts. Nate Rhineer came in and closed the game, allowing two hits with one strikeout. McGwire Jephson, Sam Beck, Hunter Gatti and Kaden Miller each collected a hit.

Game four and final game of the series was a loss for the Eagles, losing 2-3. Sam Beck started on the bump throwing six innings,  allowing three hits with nine strikeouts. Jarret Kenyon threw one inning with two strikeouts and zero hits. Micah Del Rio came in and allowed two hits with zero strikeouts. Zak Nelson led the team with three hits, while McGwire Jephson, Bodee Goins and Hunter Gatti each had a hit.
